The Jewish and Gentile Christians in Rome were both hanging their hats on their rituals, law keeping, and heritage. In the middle of their dispute Paul in Romans 3:23-26 reminds them that their law keeping is not what brings them value but rather their common need of Jesus Christ. They are both united in the fact that they are sinners in need of Savior. What brought the Christians in Rome value is what brings us value, not our knowledge of the laws and our heritage but rather that we have been loved by God through Jesus and “HE not me” is what gives value and the power to unite.
